Bessie Has Gone Missing

Monique Hohnberg in the Landcruiser going looking for Bessie the dog in Forbes, NSW, Australia

Many of you may remember Bessie. She was my Dad’s dog. And when he passed, she became my dog. I had to put on her on a friend’s farm while I sorted my life out in Sydney. I wanted to take her up north with me.

Even though, in her new home, she had acres to run around in and new doggie friends to play with and sheep to chase after she kept going walkabout. She is a very tall New Zealand Hunter. She can jump a normal sized fence with ease. I’ve seen her jump out of a very high shearing hut window without even using her feet to guide her.

Every other time they have been able to locate  her. This time the walkabout was too successful. She has disappeared for good. Everyone has searched everywhere for her. She was my last connection with my Dad who passed away.

I am going out to the old property where we used to live. People have already searched out there but it may have taken a little time for her to find her old home.

There is a place behind the old woolshed dam that was a bit swampy that had lots of interesting animals to chase and lots of shade. She loved hanging out there. I am going to go out there in the 4WD Landcruiser Ute to ask the new owners if I can have a hunt around.

She is a very friendly dog and very good looking. So, I am hoping that she is in a new home, and not dead in a ditch somewhere.

Feeling sad,

Monique

I know what is like to loose your mans best friend dog, find him, and then six months later, have him taken by someone and I have never seen him again. I know he was taken because there was a witnes. My heart remains lonely for him. His name is Charlie. I completely get the pains of loss you feel. You probably more so because Bessie was your fathered dog. Time will tell.
